To be opposed to the negative in the industry is just half the struggle, educating potential customers about some of the pitfalls and practices of unethical companies is important as well.

The following list represents some of the activities that we deem as unethical.

1) Bait and Switch - Any person (s) that would lead the buyer to believe they are receiving one product or service, but deliver something different or of lesser value is guilty of "Bait and Switch"

2) Misrepresentation - There are far too many examples of misrepresentation to list, however, it should be known that any person (s) that mislead a buyer about any aspect of their product or service are committing an act of misrepresentation. Offering a "free" four day cruise coupon, that ends up costing the Bride & Groom more than $400 (not including travel costs to Miami) is just an example!

3) Kickbacks - By definition, a kickback is not a sales commission or referral fee which are monies subtracted from a standard price. A "Kick-back" occurs when the normal list price for a product or service is inflated in order to allow for additional payments to outside sources. We have knowledge of this occurring heavily in this trade and are aware that in other areas of the country, it has become a requirement to pay other people "Kick-backs" in order to work. We do not want to see this in Michigan.

4) Subcontracting - This act in itself is not a problem, however, the manner in which it is done can be. Similar to the "Bait and Switch", several DJ/companies find it necessary to OVER BOOK themselves and then shop around for another disc jockey to cover the date so they can make extra money. In this scenario, the customers believe that they are receiving the services of the company they have contracted, but instead they are receiving a disc jockey from another company. Although doing this is not against the Law, we feel that it is misleading, and therefore, unacceptable.

5) Drug and Alcohol Abuse - To our knowledge, Drinking on the job is not legally restricted, however, we feel that it is very unprofessional. Only if you are invited to drink can it be appropriate on any given occasion, and moderation is considered to be the absolute limit. Naturally, any use of any illegal substances is unacceptable. We feel that it is our purpose to encourage the party, not join the party as a guest.
